Legito PowerUp 2024 Fireside chat: Automation of Litigation for Financial Services
Aleksander Krzeszowiak of Polish law firm, SSW, joined Legito’s Noel O’Connell for a round-table discussion about the use of Legito to automate financial services litigation.
- Litigation has not always been the obvious law firm department for introducing document automation, and it was interesting to hear from Aleksander that, unusually, the push to start an automation project came from the lawyers themselves.
- SSW is one of the largest Polish law firms, and has the largest litigation team, but they were still struggling to meet client demand for a growing portfolio of litigation cases.
- They did not have the capacity, and did not have time to add capacity, to cope with the rate of demand increase.
- The objective was to reduce lawyer workloads by automating repetitive tasks.
- Aleksander’s team evaluated 5-10 competitors before selecting Legito for a proof of concept.
- His presentation at PowerUp 2024 comes after two years of experience with Legito for production use.
- Legito was selected for the user experience and no-code tooling.
- Aleksander emphasized that they started with just a few of the simpler documents, to build confidence as well as trust.
- He feels their ‘small steps method’ was key to success.
- However, he also advised that it was important to keep up the momentum and move on to more documents to maintain the enthusiasm and support of users.
- It was also important to apply Legito to the more complex documents, not just the simple ones.
- Aleksander says his favourite tool was the clause library.
- He went on to share three videos highlighting Legito in action.
- Significant time-savings were achieved by using Legito to import large public databases with Polish court information, and to integrate with government facilities to assimilate, for example, companies information.
- Lawyers gained time and accuracy from not having to manually retrieve data to populate documents.
- Aleksander also shared a use-case to demonstrate that efficiency is not the only prize.
- He showcased the creation of a financial guarantee template with questions designed to ensure the correct drafting of documents which otherwise risked being unenforceable.
- After the success of the litigation team, the firm offered up prizes and incentives to other teams.
- The employment team and banking team were keen to adopt Legito for their practice areas.
- SSW also started to demonstrate the use of Legito to the firm’s clients, which showed the firm’s innovative use of technology in legal work, as well as providing clients with the opportunity to use Legito in their organizations.
